Overview
MyTasbih ("MyTasbih", "we", "us", or "our") builds a free digital tasbih (dhikr) counter and a set of optional premium features for Muslims worldwide. This Privacy Policy explains what information we handle when you use our website and app at mytasbih.com, why we handle it, and the choices and rights you have.
This policy is written to reflect widely recognized privacy standards, including the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and comparable expectations in the United States and in Arab and Middle Eastern countries. Please read it together with our Cookie Policy and our Terms of Service.
Who we are
MyTasbih is the operator of the mytasbih.com website and Progressive Web App and is the data controller responsible for the personal information described in this policy. For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights, you can reach us at info@mytasbih.com or through our contact page.
Information we collect
How much information we handle depends entirely on how you use MyTasbih. We have organized it by the choices you make.
1. If you just use the free counter (no account)
You can count dhikr, set goals, use Sunnah mode, choose a language, and switch themes without creating an account or giving us any personal details. In this mode your counts, streaks, custom dhikr, favorites, and preferences are stored only in your device's local browser storage — they are not sent to us and we cannot see them. Clearing your browser storage removes this data.
2. Information you give us when you create an account
- Your name — a first name (required) and an optional last name, used to personalize your account.
- Email address — used to sign you in, verify your account, send account and security messages, and (for subscribers) send receipts and renewal reminders.
- Password — stored only as a securely hashed value; we never store or see your plain-text password. If you sign in with Google, no MyTasbih password is created unless you choose to set one.
- Language preference — so the app appears in your chosen language across your devices.
3. Your dhikr activity (when you are signed in)
If you have a Pro subscription or an active trial and choose to sync, we store the activity you generate so it is available across your devices and in your dashboard. This can include your total and daily counts, session history, streaks, goals, achievements/badges, multi-counter slots, custom dhikr you create, and your app settings.
4. Payment information (subscribers only)
When you subscribe to MyTasbih Pro, payment is processed by our payment providers Stripe and, where offered, PayPal. You enter your card or payment details directly with them on their secure pages — MyTasbih never receives or stores your full card number. We keep only the information needed to manage your subscription, such as your membership level, start/renewal/expiry dates, order status, and a payment reference or the type of payment method used.
5. Information collected automatically
- Technical and log data — like your IP address, browser type, device and operating system, and the pages you visit, recorded by our servers and security tools to keep the service running, secure, and to prevent abuse (for example, rate-limiting).
- Cookies and local storage — small pieces of data used to remember your session, language, consent choice, and to keep the offline app working. See our Cookie Policy for the full list.
6. Approximate location — only if you ask for it
Optional features such as prayer times and Qibla direction need your approximate location. These are strictly opt-in: your device asks your permission first, the coordinates are used to fetch prayer times, and we do not build a location history from them.
7. Messages you send us
If you contact us (for example through our contact form or by email), we receive the information you include — such as your name, email, and the content of your message — so we can respond and provide support.
How we use your information
We use the information described above to:
- Provide the counter, dashboard, statistics, history, achievements, libraries, and other features you use;
- Create and secure your account, verify your email, and let you sign in (including with Google);
- Sync your dhikr data across your devices when you enable it;
- Process subscriptions, payments, renewals, receipts, and manage cancellations and refunds;
- Send you essential service messages (verification, security alerts, password resets, subscription notices) and, where you have opted in, reminders and reports;
- Keep MyTasbih safe — detecting, preventing, and responding to abuse, fraud, and technical problems;
- Understand which features are used, in aggregate, so we can improve the app;
- Comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not use your dhikr activity or account data to serve you third-party advertising, and we do not sell your personal information.
Our legal bases (for EEA/UK users)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR:
- Performance of a contract — to create your account, sync your data, and provide the Pro features you subscribe to.
- Consent — for optional features you switch on, such as location-based prayer times, reminders, and non-essential cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and improve MyTasbih, balanced against your rights.
- Legal obligation — to meet accounting, tax, and other legal requirements.
How we share information
We share personal information only in the limited situations below, and only as needed:
- Service providers who help us run MyTasbih under contract — for example payment processors (Stripe, PayPal), our hosting and content-delivery providers, and error-monitoring tools. They may process data only on our instructions.
- Prayer-time provider — when you use prayer times or Qibla, your approximate coordinates are sent to the Aladhan prayer-times API to calculate results.
- Sign-in providers — if you choose social sign-in, we exchange the minimum information with Google (or another provider you choose) needed to authenticate you.
- Legal and safety — where we are required by law, court order, or regulator, or where necessary to protect our rights, users, or the public.
- Business transfers — if MyTasbih is ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
International data transfers
MyTasbih serves users around the world, and our service providers may process data in countries other than your own. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we take steps to ensure it remains protected in line with this policy and applicable law, for example by relying on providers that offer appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep your data
We keep personal data only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy:
- Account and activity data — for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your account data and associated dhikr records.
- After a subscription ends — we may keep your synced data for a short grace period so you can renew without losing it, after which it may be removed.
- Payment and transaction records — retained as long as required to meet accounting, tax, and legal obligations.
- Local (on-device) data — remains on your device until you clear your browser storage or use the app's reset/delete controls; we cannot delete it remotely.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal data: to access it, to correct it, to delete it, to export a copy (portability), to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. Users in the EEA/UK have these rights under the GDPR; users in California and other US states, and users in Arab/Middle Eastern countries with data-protection laws, have comparable rights under their local regulations.
You can exercise most of these rights yourself, right inside the app:
- Update your name, email, password, and language in your account settings;
- Download a copy of your data, and delete your account and associated data, from the privacy controls in your dashboard;
- Manage optional features (reminders, prayer times, private mode) from their settings.
You may also contact us at info@mytasbih.com and we will help. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority, though we hope you will contact us first so we can resolve any concern.
Children's privacy
MyTasbih is intended for a general audience and is not directed at young children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age at which consent is required in their country (for example, 13 in the United States, or 16 in parts of the EEA). The free counter can be used with no account and no personal data. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
How we protect your data
We take the security of your information seriously and apply technical and organizational safeguards, including:
- Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) across the site, enforced on account and checkout pages;
- Passwords stored only as secure hashes — never in plain text;
- Email verification, session protection, and abuse rate-limiting;
- Payment card handling delegated entirely to PCI-compliant providers (Stripe, PayPal);
- Access controls and security headers designed to reduce common web risks.
No method of transmission or storage is ever completely secure, so while we work hard to protect your data we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Third-party services and links
MyTasbih relies on trusted third parties to provide parts of the service (such as payments, hosting, prayer-time data, and sign-in). The app may also contain links to other websites. This Privacy Policy does not cover the practices of those third parties; we encourage you to review their own privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as MyTasbih evolves or as the law requires. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Your continued use of MyTasbih after an update means you accept the revised policy.
